Chicago Ski Group at Croft Yurt

Ski the Boundary Waters'(BWCA) longest tracked cross country ski trail - the Banadad Ski Trail, staying overnight in yurts, a modern secluded cabin or bed and breakfast guesthouse. The Tall Pines Yurt, the Little Ollie Lake Secluded Cabin and Poplar Creek Guesthouse Bed and Breakfast are at the Banadad's eastern trailhead. Over four miles of snowshoe trails are also located at the Banadad's eastern trailhead. The Croft Yurt and Olga Hut are near the trail's center. While you ski the Banadad, your gear and food are transported for you and your car is shuttled to the end of the trail.

For centuries the people of the Mongolian plateau have found yurts to be comfortable, convivial dwellings. These round peaked-roofed, canvas-covered huts are warm and cozy. Each comes equipped with a wood-fired stove, dishes and utensils, pots and pans, LP gas stove with oven, prep area, dining area, sleeping bags and bunk beds. An outhouse is nearby. The Tall Pines yurt even has a wood fired Finnish sauna. Ahhh.

On the Banadad Ski Adventure the yurt host not only shuttles in your gear but brings in our food for you to reheat. The Croft yurt specialty is Bouef Burgandy. The Tall Pines yurt specialty is the Mongolian fire pot- a delicious fondue of vegetables and meats cooked in a savory charcoal-heated broth, served with Oriental condiments by our yurt host. Our yurt hosts do not stay overnight at the yurts.

You can also take advantage of the cost savings of the "Yurt on Your Own" package, where you provide your own meals and tend to the camp chores.

During the ski season for skiers staying in the Tall Pines and Croft Yurts, a one-year Associate Membership in the Banadad Trail Association (BTA) is included with a reservation. This fee is $10/person or $15/family. The Association is a non-profit association dedicated to maintaining, preserving and supporting the Banadad Trails. The BTA provides to Associate Members trail maps, free yurt parking, trail condition reports and the Association’s e-newsletter, the Banadad Bulletin. However, in lieu of the Associate Membership fee we urge you to further help support the Banadad by becoming a full member in the Banadad Trail Association at $20/person and $35/family/year.
